A moment of brilliance to start your Thursday. If you watch X Factor, you probably have already heard of Carly Rose Soneclar, but I only stumbled upon her 2012 television show audition over the weekend. As my kids will attest, I am often late to the party when it comes to relevant cultural happenings – although in this case, I actually introduced my kids to Carly for the first time this weekend too. Score one for the middle-aged dad.
There is something so disarming about Miss Soneclar’s stage presence and her authenticity. She is genuinely touched by the response of the audience and the judges and that is wildly refreshing to see. And she is genuinely talented. When she sings her first few notes? Chills. At 13 years old, she does Nina Simone proud. I’m a fan of Buble, but I think Carly has managed to turn out a better cover of this song than he did.
If you have a few free minutes, spend them in appreciation of this amazing talent in the video below. And be careful…you could lose an hour clicking on the links to her other performances. I can’t wait to hear more from her as her career develops.
(p.s. – when the screen freezes, the video isn’t broken. they’ve patched in the audio that made it to the cutting room floor.)
(p.p.s. – this audition took place in Providence, RI! #hometownpride)
